To help track your residency application in Spain, we thought it would be a good idea to provide the calendar of business days and non-business days for the upcoming year which are published by the Official State Gazette in Madrid. In this article you will find the content of the Resolution of November 16, 2023, from the Secretary of State for Territorial Policy and Public Function, establishing, for the purpose of calculating deadlines, the calendar of non-business days within the scope of the General State Administration for the year 2024.

APPROVED CALENDAR:

The official approved-calendar of non-business days for the year 2024, for the General State Administration and its Public Bodies, for the purpose of calculating deadlines.

OFFICIAL NON-BUSINESS DAYS:

Official Non-business days explained, are:

  1. Throughout the national territory: Saturdays, Sundays, and days declared as non-replaceable national holidays, or on which all Autonomous Communities have not exercised the substitution faculty.
  2. In the territorial scope of the Autonomous Communities: those days determined by each Autonomous Community as holidays.
  3. In the territorial scopes of the Entities that make up the Local Administration: the days established by the respective Autonomous Communities in their corresponding calendars of non-business days.

The non-business days referred to in points 1.) and 2.) of this section are specified by month and Autonomous Communities in the attached annex.

Day 01: Non-business throughout the national territory.

February: All Saturdays and Sundays of the month.
Day 13: Non-business in the Autonomous Community of Extremadura.
Day 28: Non-business in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia.

March: All Saturdays and Sundays of the month.
Day 1: Non-business in the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands.
Day 19: Non-business in the Region of Murcia, as well as in the Valencian Community.
Day 28: Non-business in the Autonomous Communities of Andalusia, Aragon, the Principality of Asturias, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Galicia, the Region of Murcia, the Basque Country, La Rioja, as well as in the Community of Castilla y León, in the Community of Madrid, in the Foral Community of Navarra, in the City of Ceuta, and in the City of Melilla.
Day 29: Non-business throughout the national territory.

April: All Saturdays and Sundays of the month.
Day 01: Non-business in the Autonomous Communities of the Balearic Islands, Cantabria, Catalonia, the Basque Country, La Rioja, as well as in the Foral Community of Navarra and the Valencian Community.
Day 23: Non-business in the Autonomous Community of Aragon, as well as in the Community of Castilla y León.

May: All Saturdays and Sundays of the month.
Day 01: Non-business throughout the national territory.
Day 02: Non-business in the Community of Madrid.
Day 17: Non-business in the Autonomous Community of Galicia.
Day 30: Non-business in the Autonomous Communities of the Canary Islands and Castilla-La Mancha.
Day 31: Non-business in the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La Mancha.

June: All Saturdays and Sundays of the month.
Day 10: Non-business in the Autonomous Community of La Rioja.
Day 17: Non-business in the City of Ceuta and in the City of Melilla.
Day 24: Non-business in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, as well as in the Valencian Community.

July: All Saturdays and Sundays of the month.
Day 25: Non-business in the Autonomous Communities of Cantabria, Galicia, and the Basque Country, as well as in the Community of Madrid and in the Foral Community of Navarra.

INDEX:

In the Canary Islands, Decree 363/2023, of September 11, which determines the calendar of labor holidays in the Canary Islands for the year 2024, and opens a period to set local holidays (BOC of September 18, 2023), provides: “In the islands of El Hierro, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, La Gomera, La Palma, Lanzarote, La Graciosa, and Tenerife, the labor holidays will be, in addition, the following: in El Hierro: on September 24, the feast of Our Lady of the Kings; in Fuerteventura: on September 20, the feast of Our Lady of the Rock; in Gran Canaria: on September 09, Monday after the feast of Our Lady of the Pine; in La Gomera: on October 07, the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe; in La Palma: on August 05, the feast of Our Lady of the Snows; in Lanzarote and La Graciosa: on September 16, the feast of Our Lady of the Volcanoes; in Tenerife: on February 02, the feast of the Virgin of Candelaria.”

In Catalonia, Order EMT/153/2023, of May 29, which establishes the official calendar of labor holidays in Catalonia for the year 2024 (DOGC of June 13, 2023), provides: “In the Aran territory, the holiday on December 26 (Saint Stephen) is replaced by June 17 (Aran Festival), Monday.” It also provides: “Of the thirteen holidays mentioned in section a) [those transcribed in the preceding table], one, to be chosen between January 06, April 01, June 24, and December 26, will have the nature of recoverable. The other twelve will be paid and non-recoverable.”
