Will there be a Dual Nationality Agreement between Spain and Romania?

Spain and Romania are currently negotiating a Double Nationality Agreement that would allow the over 600,000 Romanians living in Spain to have both nationalities.

This would be a significant advancement for the entire Romanian community in Spain, allowing them to retain their original nationality.

WHAT IS DUAL NATIONALITY:

Dual Nationality, also known as Dual Citizenship, is an agreement reached between two countries which permits citizens of each country to be able to hold nationality dual countries.

This means citizens from either Romania or Spain can apply for foreign citizenship and keep their either Spanish or Romanian citizenship.

When will the Double Nationality Agreement between Spain and Romania come into effect?

The Romanian government urges Spain to finalize the Double Nationality Agreement between the two countries as soon as possible. In an interview with EFE, they stated that this agreement is eagerly anticipated by many, and it is time to leverage the strong relationship between Spain and Romania to move this project forward.

Both countries initiated initial discussions in May 2023 during the trilateral summit with Poland, making progress in this regard.
