Arraigo Formación – Residency Updates in Spain

In 2022, Royal Decree 629/2022, was published in the Official State Gazette, amending the Regulations of Organic Law 4/2000, explaining many new updates for expats who reside in Spain.

On this publication we will discuss updates for Arrairgo Formación.


Who can obtain an authorization by roots for training?
Foreigners who can prove a continuous stay in Spain for a minimum period of two years, have no criminal record in Spain and in their country of origin or in the country or countries in which they have resided during the last five years and commit to formal training.
What type of training allows obtaining this authorization?
Regulated training for employment or to obtain a certificate of professionalism.
Training leading to obtaining the certification of technical aptitude or professional qualification necessary for the exercise of a specific occupation or one promoted by the Public Employment Services and oriented to the performance of occupations included in the Catalog referred to in article 65.1.
Courses to expand or update skills and training or professional skills, as well as other teachings of lifelong learning, in the field of lifelong learning at universities.
How long is the root authorization for training valid?
It will have an initial validity of 12 months, extendable, only once, for another period of 12 months, in cases in which the training lasts more than twelve months or its duration exceeds the validity of the first authorization granted.
When does registration have to be done?
Enrollment must be carried out within 3 months from the notification of the granting of the residence permit, and proof of said enrollment must be provided.
In cases where registration is subject to specific registration periods, proof of registration must be sent to the Immigration Office within a maximum period of 3 months from the end of said period.
How to proceed once the training is finished?
Once the training has been completed, and during the validity of the residence authorization, the interested party will submit the application for residence and work authorization to the Immigration Office together with:
➢ an employment contract signed by the worker and the employer that guarantees at least the minimum interprofessional salary, or that established by the applicable collective agreement, at the time of the request, and
➢ proof of having passed the training provided for in the residence application.
In these cases, the Immigration Office will grant a two-year authorization that will enable you to work.

Permanent residency is obtained after 5 years of Spanish Residency through Self-Empoyed Residency or Non-Lucrative Residency or Residency through Investment. This followed by 5 years as a permanent resident and means you can then obtain Spanish Citizenship with a Spanish Passport.
