Update on the spanish golden-visa
UPDATE ON THE SPANISH GOLDEN-VISA:
The government published on the 09th August an update their proposition to exclude the Golden-Visa, which explains that their proposed law will be voted upon on the 04th of September, and if passed, will eliminate immediately the provision that allows obtaining a residence visa based on housing investment, the so-called golden visa.
If passed, all applications made prior to this date will be valid and processed, but any new applications made after this date, will not be accepted.
This was announced 09 August by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, during a visit to the municipality of Dos Hermanas to participate in an event on social housing.
It has been explained that this proposed law will be voted upon by the coalition government on 04th September, with the following reasons why it should be accepted:
- It has been proposed that the Golden-Visa law “has not worked” and the reasons that is was introduced have not been achieved.
- It is stated that this law has caused Gentrification, causing the process of changing the character of a neighborhood through the influx of more affluent residents (the “gentry”) and investment.
- The law also states that there is a general concept and push to eliminate this law throughout the countries of the EU.
