Portugal & Ireland have now stopped their Golden Visa programmes for residency into the EU, is the golden-visa going to end in spain?
There are now two European Union Member States who have stopped their Residency by Investment programs, might more states soon follow?
Ireland became the first EU country to end its Golden Visa scheme on 14th February 2023, which was then followed by Portugal a day later.
In the same week that this occurred, the leader of a political party in Spain ´Más País´, submitted a bill to the congress which proposes the termination of the Spanish Golden Visa, meaning that Spain then may be the third country to end its Golden Visa programme.
Parties of the Spanish government want to terminate obtaining residency through the Golden visa by buying a house or other types of real estate in Spain. Although the bill from ´Más País´ has not yet been discussed by congress, if it is approved, the articles 63 and 64 of Law 14/2013 will be modified, eliminating the option to obtain residency in Spain through investment.
Spain is still currently accepting Golden-Visa applications meaning you still currently have time to obtain your Residency in the EU.
Would you like to become a resident of Spain through investment?
At current the Golden-Visa Residency is still active and open for applications.
Permanent residency is obtained after 5 years of Spanish Residency through Self-Employed Residency, Digital-Nomad, Non-Lucrative Residency or Golden-Visa. This followed by 5 years as a permanent resident in Spain and means you can then obtain Spanish Citizenship with a Spanish Passport.
